Staff Pick: A Review of NICERC Appearances and Where to Find Us Next

This post comes from NICERC’s Director of Curriculum Chuck Gardner

For those keeping track, January and February have been very busy times indeed! NICERC team members have covered events from state standards meetings to teacher conventions and course framework committees to educator workshops. The map below shows locations we’ve been to since the start of 2018.

Our first event of the new year brought us up to Boise, ID for a meeting with some folks from Idaho Digital Learning where we talked about NICERC content, Idaho student needs, and how each can help support the other. After working through some content from NICERC’s library we took a quick tour of the Boise State University Computer Science Building where we saw examples of the fantastic collaborative space that they’ve created for students to work alongside researchers and faculty.

Following on the heels of working with Idaho educators, NICERC participated in a statewide cyber education planning committee meeting with representatives from all across North Dakota. This full-day, virtual session involved conversations on ideas to develop collaborative opportunities with administrators, educators, and community partners from across the state. It is the committees hope that these collaborative ideas will aid students in receiving the most beneficial and timely educational content possible.

To kick off the month of February, four NICERC team members trekked to Austin to debut a vendor booth at the week-long Texas Computer Educators Association (TCEA) Conference. Also making it’s debut was a DIY activity where participants were able to build and show off a blinky LED badge! Check out our Facebook page for images from TCEA and the DIY activity.

In addition to state representation and conferences, we’ve hosted a variety of workshops in the first two months of the new year. Sites that we’ve been to include Augusta, GA; Orange City, IA; Scarsdale, NY; Yorktown Heights, NY; and, Columbia, SC. Over the next few weeks, NICERC team members will be headed to workshops and meetings in some of the following locations across the country: San Bernardino, CA; Atlanta, GA (NSTA); Natchitoches, LA; Boston, MA; Bismark, Dickinson, Fargo, and Valley City, ND; and, Columbia, SC.
