Create a miniature parade float powered by rubber bands with a theme of “Rainforests Around the World.” Discover elastic, potential, and kinetic energies, and impact of wheel size on travel distance.
Students will create a miniature parade float powered by rubber bands with a theme of Rainforests Around the World. During the module, students will research components of rainforests which will influence the exterior float design. Additionally, each team will investigate elastic, potential, and kinetic energies, impact of wheel size on travel distance, and other key factors that are important to the float design. This kit contains enough materials for 10 groups. Access to curricula materials can be found at http://www.nicerc.org.
Materials in this kit include: foam board, dowel rods, CDs, rubber bands, straws, school glue, glue gun and glue gun sticks, zip ties, nylon string, assorted paint, sponge brushes, masking tape, and a hanging scale
Students will design a vessel that represents supplies being dropped to refugees. Apply concepts of potential energy, kinetic energy, motion, gravity, velocity, drag, and the Law of Conservation of Energy while also taking into consideration the cost of building and shipping the vessels.
